Are you part of the 80% who aren\u2019t getting the sleep they need?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Sleep is not a luxury.<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Not\nsleeping well has really become a crisis in this country. Many of us don\u2019t\nprioritize our sleep. Everything else comes first &#8211; family, work, chores,\nobligations. Sleep is the first thing to go when we feel like we don\u2019t have\nenough time in the day to get everything done.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And\nfor many of us, once we are ready to take the time to sleep, sleep doesn\u2019t come\neasily. Maybe it takes you forever to fall asleep at night. Or you wake up in\nthe middle of the night, just lying there, begging for sleep to take over\nagain. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">I learned the hard way.<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>I was one of those people for 2 years. My insomnia started in pregnancy and didn\u2019t go away even when my baby started sleeping through the night. I\u2019m probably more sensitive to sleep deprivation than others, and I was miserable. I hated being exhausted and trying to function in a fog every day. You can read my story <a href=\"https:\/\/www.happylittlecamperjh.com\/more-about-me\">here<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Sleep to Survive<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>It\nturns out that sleep is a basic need. It\u2019s right up there with food, water,\nair, and shelter. Our bodies need sleep to be healthy and happy and to thrive\nin life.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Sleep is so important that not getting enough makes us more likely to get modern diseases like cancer, diabetes, heart disease, and more. Seems hard to believe? <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Check out these statistics:<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Individuals with short sleep duration (less than 6 hours) were 7.5 times more likely to have a higher body mass index.<a href=\"#_ftn1\"><sup>[1]<\/sup><\/a><ul><li>Those reporting 6 hours per night were about 1.7 times more likely to have diabetes.<a href=\"#_ftn2\"><sup>[2]<\/sup><\/a><\/li><\/ul><\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Five hours of sleep or less was\nassociated with a 45 percent increase in risk of a heart attack.<a href=\"#_ftn3\"><sup>[3]<\/sup><\/a><\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Nearly 20% of all serious car crash injuries are associated with driver&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.thegoodbody.com\/sleep-statistics\/#sleepiness\">sleepiness<\/a><a href=\"#_ftn4\"><sup>[4]<\/sup><\/a><ul><li>Studies using different methods and populations estimate that 65% to 90% of adult patients with major depression, and about 90% of children with this disorder, experience some kind of sleep problem.<a href=\"#_ftn5\"><sup>[5]<\/sup><\/a><\/li><\/ul><\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">It&#8217;s a lifestyle choice<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>The good news is that most sleep issues aren\u2019t actually a medical problem. Sure, we treat them with drugs like it\u2019s a medical problem. But for most people who don\u2019t have an actual sleep disorder, the problem is behavioral. Which means there\u2019s a non-medical solution. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Your\nsleeplessness is not from a lack of sleeping pills. Our sleep problems come\nfrom living in the modern world in which we don\u2019t move enough, get enough\nsunlight, or take time to wind down at night before bed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>So\nwhat if you do value your sleep?
