No really, why?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Let\u2019s be real\u2014as business owners, we\u2019re all here in hopes of getting a few extra dollars in our jeans. But the only way that our social profiles are going to translate to bread and butter is if we use them to build genuine relationships and truly connect with our customers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We\u2019ve all fallen into the trap of comparing the number of likes, followers, and perceived engagement with others. Did you know that these are actually called vanity metrics? They\u2019re the first thing we see on our profiles and they SEEM super important\u2014but let\u2019s take a step back.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Here are the real questions: how many of those likes are turning into sales? Are your many, many (or few, few) followers willing to invest in you and your brand? Quality trumps volume, every day of the week\u2026 and twice on Sundays.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>If your end goal is a lead or a sale, you must invite your readers into working with you. To do that without being gross about it, you need to build a community that knows, likes, and trusts you. But before you can do that, you must first attract people to your brand and business.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Just like a ladder, we start at the bottom rung (attract) and work our way up (to the sale).<strong> <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>We can break the growth ladder into a few common goals:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><strong>Expand brand awareness<\/strong><\/li><li><strong>Build community<\/strong><\/li><li><strong>Make sales<\/strong><\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p>It\u2019s very easy to get caught up in vanity metrics, but once we have a solid handle on our primary goal we know exactly which analytics we should be looking at. (Of course, you\u2019re going to be working on all three at the same time\u2014but you should be leaning into one more than the others and cycling through. This is where planning ahead is a game changer.)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Let\u2019s start at the beginning.<\/p>\n\n\n<p>[CTA_A title=&#8221;Turn your followers into clients<br \/>\n&#8220;]<br \/>\nDon\u2019t forget the ultimate goal of all your social media marketing content:<br \/>\n<br \/>\nTo turn your followers into paying clients.<br \/>\n<br \/>\nMake it easy for followers who are ready to book you to do just that. Just add a link in your bio that connects to your HoneyBook contact form. Make sure that you\u2019re also using hashtags and peeping in to see where folks are coming from! <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Here\u2019s exactly where you need to look in your grid:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/hbbadmin.dev.reliablepenguin.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/09\/metrics_1-566x332.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-27636\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>(Your numbers are going to look different depending on the size &amp; general engagement of your audience. For me, this isn\u2019t a great post\u2014but that\u2019s important information too!)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">When your goal is to build a loyal and engaged community, measure true engagement.<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>We\u2019re not talking about the engagement that all of the social media people are telling you to measure. Likes and comments are great, but saves &amp; shares are SUPERLIKES. Direct messages, even better. Businesses are built on relationships, and relationships happen through conversations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We\u2019ve built a handy dandy scorecard that\u2019ll help you get right down to the nitty gritty. But the navigation tells the <em>real<\/em> story of how interested folks are in your content!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Back = they\u2019ve flicked back to watch that slide again (high five! They\u2019re super interested!)<\/li><li>Forward = they\u2019ve tapped to see the next slide in your story (totally okay! They want to see what else you\u2019ve got!)<\/li><li>Next Story = sad trombone (they\u2019re still hanging out on IG, but have moved on to someone else\u2019s stories)<\/li><li>Exited = they just realized that they\u2019ve lost 20 minutes in a mindless scroll and leaped up from the couch to get some real work done (also okay!)<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>My personal goal? Always have more \u201cback\u201d than \u201cnext story.\u201d Once you\u2019ve done this for a while, you\u2019ll get a really good idea of which content is most interesting to your viewers!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>To increase your overall engagement, call your audience to action\u2026 and remember that even little actions count, like double tapping or saving a post. (The more they engage with your content, the higher you\u2019ll rank in their feed.) And remember, you get what you give! Don\u2019t be shy about having full-on convos right in the comments section.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">When your goal is to make more sales, measure DMs and leads.<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>This one is easier than you think!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Simply challenge yourself to have as many conversations as possible. STOP WORRYING about getting more people into the room\u2014focus on the ones that are already there, waiting to hear what you have to say.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Be generous. Be helpful. Expect nothing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The goal on social media is always going to be to connect with your readers, establish your expertise, and build relationships.
