{"id":38575,"date":"2015-06-01T01:00:19","date_gmt":"2015-06-01T01:00:19","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.risingtidesociety.com\/?p=276"},"modified":"2022-07-19T18:36:59","modified_gmt":"2022-07-20T01:36:59","slug":"defining-a-brand-aesthetic","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/hbb.dev.reliablepenguin.com\/blog\/defining-a-brand-aesthetic","title":{"rendered":"Defining A Brand Aesthetic"},"content":{"rendered":"\r\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><em><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Make rebranding and brand optimization easier and more coherent by following these 4 simple steps for branding and defining a brand aesthetic. <\/span><\/em><\/p>\r\n\r\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1200\" height=\"800\" class=\"wp-image-281\" src=\"https:\/\/hbbadmin.dev.reliablepenguin.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/07\/graphic2.jpg\" alt=\"Defining a brand aesthetic\r\n\" \/><\/figure>\r\n\r\n\r\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">I ask all of my branding clients to complete a branding questionnaire that tells me more about the heart behind their businesses, but I also ask them to pull together a Pinterest board to begin defining their brand aesthetic.\u00a0<\/span>\r\n\r\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The board can contain a few logos and other design elements, but in general, I can learn so much more about a client when they pin interior design, outfits, wallpaper, accessories, invitations, wedding inspiration and artwork.<\/span>\r\n\r\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">For most Independent business owners, their individual style preferences will help determine the brand\u2019s visual style as well.\u00a0<\/span>\r\n\r\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">So if you\u2019re thinking about how to find your aesthetic and implement it in your branding, but you\u2019re feeling completely lost and overwhelmed, learn how to do the same so you can begin defining your brand visually.<\/span>\r\n\r\n\r\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Why the aesthetic is an important part of brand identity<\/h2>\r\n\r\n\r\nThe visual part of your brand, also known as your brand design, is one of the first things people will interact within your business. Whether they see one of your social media posts or visit your website, they\u2019ll be taking in all the color schemes, font, imagery, and illustrations that you use.\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\nThough there\u2019s always more than meets the eye, we tend to take in most of our information visually. Think about the last time you visited a new website\u2013just from glancing at the page, you probably have a good sense of the brand already. You\u2019ll know whether they\u2019re more professional or more casual or catered to a specific age range.\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\nFor these reasons, it\u2019s especially important for you to make sure your visual brand is communicating what you want it to.\r\n\r\n\r\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Step 1 : Gather visuals that you like<\/h2>\r\n\r\n\r\nCreate a new (secret) board in Pinterest. Go back through all of your past pins and add the ones that really feel like <em>you<\/em> to that new board. You can even add some of your own work to the board.\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\nIf you don\u2019t have a lot of pins yet, or most of your pins are recipes, try searching for home inspiration, outfits, specific colors and even mood words like \u201cromantic\u201d, \u201cclassic\u201d or \u201crustic\u201d.\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\nAs an Independent business owner, you\u2019ll likely want to incorporate your preferences and personality into your brand. However, if you already have an idea for your brand, you can search for pins that relate to your vision.\r\n\r\n\r\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\r\n<figure class=\"aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-280\" src=\"https:\/\/hbbadmin.dev.reliablepenguin.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/07\/creating-brand-color-palette-mood-photo.jpg\" alt=\"Create your aesthetic board template\" \/><\/figure>\r\n<\/div>\r\n\r\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Step 2: Create a mood board<\/h2>\r\n\r\n\r\nOnce you have that board together and refined to your favorite thirty or so pins, open up Photoshop and start adding your all-time favorite pins to the document.\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\nIf you don\u2019t use Photoshop, you can always use a free tool like Canva instead. All you need is a mood board template that will let you drop in multiple images on the same page so you can view everything at once.\r\n\r\n\r\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\r\n<figure class=\"aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"1332\" height=\"935\" class=\"wp-image-279\" src=\"https:\/\/hbbadmin.dev.reliablepenguin.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/07\/creating-brand-color-palette-2-mood-photo.jpg\" alt=\"Making your brand aesthetic design on Photoshop\" \/><\/figure>\r\n<\/div>\r\n\r\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Step 3: Determine your color palette<\/h2>\r\n\r\n\r\nFrom there, use the eyedropper tool in Photoshop or Canva to sample the images and create a color palette. It might sound difficult, but if you\u2019re choosing your favorite pins, themes and color palettes tend to emerge pretty naturally!\r\n\r\n\r\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\r\n<figure class=\"aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"1327\" height=\"930\" class=\"wp-image-278\" src=\"https:\/\/hbbadmin.dev.reliablepenguin.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/07\/creating-brand-color-palette-3-mood-photo.jpg\" alt=\"Finalize designs for your brand aesthetic\" \/><\/figure>\r\n<\/div>\r\n\r\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Step 4: Implement your new brand visuals<\/h2>\r\n\r\n\r\nImplement it! Use the mood board and color palette you just created to help change the aesthetic design of your website, to choose client gifts, and even to help figure out what to share on Instagram!\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\nWe recommend creating a style guide for your brand where you can write down any information you get from your mood board. Is your aesthetic more classic or modern? Does it make you feel energized or calm? All of this information goes into defining your brand.\r\n\r\n\r\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">How to incorporate your brand aesthetic into your business<\/h2>\r\n\r\n\r\nOnce you have your new brand documented, it\u2019s time to make sure it\u2019s cohesive across all your business efforts. We\u2019ve already mentioned your website and social media, but what about the other places where clients interact with you?\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\nUpdate your emails with headers that incorporate your brand colors and fonts. You can even update your <a href=\"https:\/\/hbbadmin.dev.reliablepenguin.com\/email-signature\">email signature<\/a> so it\u2019s on-brand as well.\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\nConsider all your touchpoints with leads as well. From the very beginning of the relationship, you\u2019re likely sending out <a href=\"https:\/\/hbbadmin.dev.reliablepenguin.com\/proposal-software\">online proposals<\/a> and service brochures to move the conversation forward.
