We all know by now the impact that being visible on social media can have on your business, but maintaining a consistent presence everywhere does have the potential to become unbearable and exhausting (especially with constant algorithm and platform changes).&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">After two painful burnouts, I learned an invaluable lesson: It <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">is<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> possible to sell more and do less on social media and the first thing you need to do is understand what \u201cseason\u201d your business is in.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Not sure what I mean? I\u2019ve got you covered \u2013 let\u2019s dive in.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><b>Choose a social media platform<\/b><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">As a business owner, it\u2019s important to know why you\u2019re investing time and resources into something. So, let\u2019s start with platforms you can use to sell digital products on autopilot.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><b>Instagram <\/b><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">With nearly one billion monthly active users, Instagram is one of the most popular social networks worldwide. That means that no matter what your business is, your target audience is very (very) likely be hanging out on Instagram.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Some other things to note about Instagram:&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Organic reach is down (competition is up!)<\/span><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Paid ads are complicated<\/span><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It\u2019s harder to grow followers today, but easier than ever to drive sales (more on that later)<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><b>TikTok <\/b><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Like Instagram, TikTok boasts one billion active users. But unlike Instagram, TikTok snagged the title of the most downloaded app in the world.&nbsp; While business owners (myself included) originally thought the platform was just for teens who wanted to learn dance trends, it\u2019s now crystal clear that TikTok is joining the ranks with other powerhouse social media brands and lots of independent businesses and potential customers alike are on this platform now.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">According to <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.retailtouchpoints.com\/resources\/72-of-users-make-purchase-decisions-based-on-instagram-content\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Retail Touchpoints<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, 72% of users report making purchase decisions based on something they saw on Instagram. And Marketing Dive tells us that <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.marketingdive.com\/news\/13-of-instagram-users-have-bought-directly-from-an-ad-study-finds\/563239\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">one-third of users<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> have made a purchase right from an ad (cold traffic).&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">While AdWeek reports that nearly <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.adweek.com\/brand-marketing\/nearly-half-of-tiktokers-are-buying-stuff-from-brands-they-see-on-the-platform\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">half of TikTokers<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> are buying stuff from brands they see on the platform. The algorithm has one simple goal: get people to spend more time on the app. That\u2019s it.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">If your content is valuable (meaning people re-watch it, comment on it, share it, or save it), you\u2019ve accomplished that goal. One thing that you\u2019ll see across both Instagram and TikTok, is that short-form videos are being prioritized. Why? Because they check all of the boxes for content that keeps people on apps longer.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">According to <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/invideo.io\/blog\/video-marketing-statistics\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">invideo<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201c<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In 2020, 96% of consumers increased their online video consumption, and nine out of ten viewers said that they wanted to see more videos from brands and businesses. In fact, as of 2022, an average person is predicted to spend 100 minutes per day watching online videos.<\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201d&nbsp;<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Later Market Research tells us that in 2019, users spent a weekly average of <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.limelight.com\/resources\/white-paper\/state-of-online-video-2019\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">six hours and 48 minutes<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> watching online videos, which is a 59% increase from 2016. There\u2019s no way around it: using short-form videos is the <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">number one<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> way to increase brand awareness, trustworthiness, and sales on social media.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">What else should you keep in mind while posting? Instagram has confirmed that they take a few things into account when it comes to pushing content:&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><b>Information about the post<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. These are signals both about how popular a post is\u2013think how many people have liked it\u2013and more mundane information about the content itself, like when it was posted, how long it is if it\u2019s a video, and what location, if any, was attached to it.<\/span><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><b>Information about the person who posted<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. This helps them get a sense of how interesting the person might be to you (the viewer), and includes signals like how many times people have interacted with that person in the past few weeks.<\/span><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><b>Your activity<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. This helps Instagram understand what you might be interested in and includes signals such as how many posts you\u2019ve liked.<\/span><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><b>Your history of interacting with someone<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. This gives them a sense of how interested you are generally in seeing posts from a particular person. An example is whether or not you comment on each other\u2019s posts.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">That means that social media should be less about talking to \u201cfollowers\u201d or \u201csubscribers\u201d and more about talking to a human who\u2019s reading your actual words.
