What are your biggest pain points and challenges?<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Aside from their overt interest in your specific services, find out the biggest challenges your prospective client is working through. When used in combination with their goals, you can position your service to solve their pain points and meet their goals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<span id=\"goals\"><\/span>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>6. Do you have specific goals and metrics you\u2019re looking to hit?<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>This is one of those discovery call questions that helps you go above and beyond for your clients. It\u2019s the sales cycle equivalent of \u201cHow do you measure success?\u201d and it will tell you exactly what your clients hope to achieve.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Knowing your clients\u2019 main goals allows you to do one of three things:&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Manage expectations: <\/strong>If your client\u2019s goals are unrealistic, you can manage expectations up front and help them set SMART goals they are still excited about and are more likely to achieve. Setting achievable goals early empowers you to knock those goals out of the park.&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Tailor your services: <\/strong>When you know how clients measure success, you can tailor the services you offer to help them meet their goals. If, for example, building their email list is important to them, you know to focus on landing pages or marketing techniques that help generate new leads. On the other hand, if their goal is to improve engagement with their existing audience, you can focus less on new leads and more on client engagement.&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Develop a plan:&nbsp;<\/strong>When you know the key metrics a client is looking out for, you can develop a plan to help them achieve their goals. Firstly, if they have worked with one or more independent businesses that offer similar services to yours, it begs the question: why didn\u2019t you return to them? What inspired you to find someone else? This will lend insight into how the client will handle payment, and expectations on important aspects of the business-client relationship, like communication.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This may also be a red flag for you. It\u2019s possible this potential client is difficult to work with. Or, you may not want to start a project with a client who needs more education than you\u2019re used to providing. If you\u2019re a business consultant, for example, you may want to work with clients who already have a sense of their goals and strategy.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<span id=\"stakeholders\"><\/span>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>8. Are there any other stakeholders that need to be involved in a booking decision?<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>One of the key questions to ask in an effective discovery meeting is whether the person you\u2019re talking to is the only decision-maker or if more stakeholders will be involved in the project. For instance, there may be a separate budget owner who will be involved with the final booking decision.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This question matters because it can help you loop in additional stakeholders in your communications in order to make the decision process more efficient for them.
